In the midst of countless banking mergers and acquisitions, the directors of American Bank are committed to continue forward as a premiere independent financial institution in our market areas. American Bank remains under the same local ownership as when it opened its doors in 1970 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

What sets a community bank apart from the big national and international banks? We have local control over our lending practices and the types of products and services we offer. We have the freedom to tailor these to the needs of our communities and our customers. And because of our “Yes, we can” customer service philosophy, we have the freedom to be flexible and the incentive to be both responsive and innovative.

As an independent bank, we also know that our future depends on the growth and vitality of each community we serve. In everyday business, we encourage financial practices that will benefit the profitability of our customers. We freely offer our resources and expertise to our customers. At American Bank, we also look for ways to be an effective partner in bettering our communities. For this purpose we support economic development initiatives, higher education opportunities, and many community development and quality-of-life projects and organizations.

We’ve grown from one bank in Corpus Christi to, now, thirteen offices in six Texas cities. Last quarter our assets totaled over $800 million. We’ve become a big bank – but retained our community bank spirit. Our strength means that we can maintain a high level of personal customer service and continue to offer our customers new services such as electronic banking. We are excited about being at the forefront of a new century for independent bankers and the challenge of providing leadership, strength and creative financial solutions.
